The relationship between the Netherlands and the continent of Australia dates back a long time. It grew first through the explorations of the VOC (United Dutch East India Company) skippers and their ships, and later through the large-scale post-WWII Dutch migration to Australia. Today, interest groups in both countries see these connections as socially significant. They commemorate Dutch-Australian historical events and support collaborative research into the mutual heritage.
