A very remarkable aspect of the collections is the fact that every object in the possession of the museum came from Afghanistan and was excavated from Afghan soil. With the assistance of an international team of museum experts the National Museum has established an order in the collection based on the curator system. The rich cultural history and archaeological finds make it necessary to make a division in 13 different periods and themes. The collections have suffered enormously during the last decades and many objects have to be restored and many more have disappeared, Luckily, the museum can still show examples of their original richness.
